February 1, 2019, Above Freezing, Welcome To Skunk Season

Atmosphere:

Snow overnight accumulated to a maybe .25 inch – a heavy dusting – but now we have a wintry mix, mostly freezing drizzle. Roads could be really sketchy.

The temp will rise above freezing for the first time in 3 days reaching about 38. Saturday 51. Sunday 63.

Art:

Thought:

If you have been smelling more skunks lately there’s a reason. It happens every February. It’s mating season. Matthew Miller with The Nature Conservancy says “Just keep an eye out for skunks on the road the next few weeks (actually, it’s a good idea to drive with wildlife in mind at any time of year). Tend your dog, your garbage and your chickens (also a good idea). And if you go out on a night safari in your neighborhood, make sure the whole family has flashlights.” Read more.
