The Earth at Winter Solstice, yesterday at 5:23 pm est, via GOES East

Just got this tweet from the National Weather Service in Louisville – “The NWS will continue to operate 24×7 through the government shutdown to provide reliable forecast and warning information. We will continue to update our website and social media, but limit posts and replies to subjects directly related to forecasts and warnings.”

I receive a host of weather data, including warnings, directly from the GOES satellite via EMWIN – Emergency Managers Weather Information Network. That feed stopped overnight. It could be a coincidence since it has gone out before. Plus, EMWIN is fed to those who really need it, your city/county manager for example, via other methods than the GOES feed. Still, I wonder.

The sun a spark
Hung thin between
The dark and dark.
